Full course description

This training module introduces law enforcement professionals to the realities of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within their field. The course defines anxiety and PTSD, reviews their prevalence and impact among officers, and explores how these conditions affect performance, relationships, and overall well-being. Participants will learn to recognize common symptoms, understand the physiological stress response, and identify how prolonged exposure to trauma can escalate into diagnosable conditions. The module also addresses suicide risk, stigma, and cultural barriers to seeking support. Practical tools such as the Stress Continuum Model, Stress First Aid, progressive muscle relaxation, and diaphragmatic breathing are presented to promote resilience. The goal is to normalize conversations around mental health, reduce stigma, and provide officers with knowledge and coping strategies to manage stress, recognize warning signs, and access appropriate resources.
