Following the presentation, the student will be able to: 1. Describe common structural cardiac abnormalities that are present at birth and are due to abnormal fetal development. 2. Explain the historical perspective of the development of surgical interventions to correct or partially correct congenital defects. 3. State the classifications of congenital heart disease. 4. Identify the diagnostic tools used to assist in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease in adults. 5. Describe the clinical examination of the adult patient suspected of having congenital heart disease. 6. Explain the symptoms seen in adult patients with undiagnosed congenital heart disease. 7. Identify common symptoms of adult patients with congenital heart disease who have had a childhood repair. 8. State the pathophysiologic changes in adults who have had a childhood repair.
